SUSTAINABILITY

The Way We Work

A Multiple Stakeholder Approach

With integrity and transparency at our core, healthy, engaged relationships with multiple-stakeholders help us to communicate better how our business decisions, our activities and performances are likely to affect or be of significant interest to these publics. This also offers opportunities to co-create effective and enduring solutions to business challenges and issues. Kundan Minerals & Metals stakeholders include our workforce, host communities, customers, governments, business partners, industry peers, the broader civil society, channel partners. In some cases we work with representatives of multi-stakeholder initiatives to provide a more collaborative and holistic view of issues.

Our Environmental and Sustainability Paradigms

By-products and Waste

Any human activity has impact beyond the immediate term action. In mining, waste is generated from extracting and processing mineral resources. This includes materials sch as topsoil overburden (soil removed to gain access to the minerals underneath), waste rocks and tailings (after the extraction of the metal or mineral). We understand the importance of this by-product impact. The re-processing of mine tailings offsets greenhouse gas emissions, while technologies like automation minimize operational inefficiencies ---- maximizing production, while lowering emission. Kundan Minerals & Metals believes that short and long term environmental monitoring strategies can help companies monitor and manage mining waste. It is our belief that these will be widely adopted in a sector increasingly concerned with environmental, social and governance (ESG) compliance.

Waste Management

Reduced Inputs

By diverting surface water and pumping groundwater, we can reduce the quantity and quality of water lost. With regards to energy, in our vision and view, alternative energy sources (in our case, solar) can reduce greenhouse gases besides positively impacting the cost of producing product. This can reduce the cost of the commodity itself if implemented to scale.

Recycling

Reduced Outputs

We are conscious of using sustainable equipment – cleaner production techniques, environmental control technologies, using waste raw material and process re-engineering.

Reduced Outputs

Proper Waste Disposal

Our waste disposal mechanisms adhere to stipulated standards and guidelines. In addition, we are prospecting equipment which helps turn waste into re-usable material and adopting policies which allow for a more eco-friendly waste disposal routine. The extraction and processing of ore creates significant amount of residual material including what are called, tailings. As the world’s demand for metals and minerals increases, the grades of extracted ore decline, the quantum of tailings has increased exponentially. Management and storage of tailings is a critical factor in the mining industry. We understand the criticality of this issue and commit ourselves to responsible management of tailings.

Proper Waste Disposal

Re-use and Re-cycling

We are proponents of re-used grey water for washing equipment and other such uses. Constant Improvement in Manufacturing Processes: across our business verticles we focus on efficiencies in manufacturing because it has a direct impact on the environment. Equally importantly, this allows us to regulate those processes which may be lacking in environmental friendliness --- changing / improving elements which are inefficient or those which use excessive too many natural resources.

Re-cycling
sustanibility_Underpinning

Underpinning all of the above is our policy of transparency.

In addition to being a best practice which resonates our value of integrity and co-option, in an increasingly complex and volatile world, we need to make decisions rapidly - even in times of uncertainty. A transparent perspective of the entire value chain can ensure the continuous incorporation and use of available data which is vital to decision making.

We believe that the changing external environments require a comprehensive end-to-end re-evaluation of real time data. This helps in significant minimization of risk created by operating dynamics. Transparency also allows us to better comply with regulations around the traceability of materials, supply chains and integrated environmental reporting. We are committed to understanding and proactively managing our climate and environmental sustainability obligations, risks and opportunities since we increasingly operate in a carbon constrained and changing climate.

We use advanced technology to ensure zero discharge in production, focusing on sustainability, circularity, and biodiversity protection. Our strategy, aligned with UN SDGs and Global Compact principles, aims to reduce negative impacts and drive positive outcomes for the environment, society, and stakeholders while respecting planetary boundaries.
